Fibroids are benign muscular growths in the uterus. They are extremely common — many women have them without ever knowing. They only need treatment when they cause symptoms or affect fertility.
Symptoms: heavy or prolonged periods, pelvic pressure or a feeling of fullness, frequent urination, constipation, pain during intercourse, abdominal enlargement, back pain, and in some cases difficulty conceiving or recurrent miscarriage.
Position matters more than size. A small submucosal fibroid pressing into the uterine cavity can cause severe bleeding and prevent implantation, while a large subserosal fibroid on the outer wall may cause nothing at all. We map location with ultrasound and, where needed, MRI or hysteroscopy before recommending anything.

If you are planning pregnancy, tell us. Fibroid management before conception is different from management after, and myomectomy has implications for how you will deliver. This is where a centre with a fertility background is genuinely useful — see our infertility treatment services.
