Air Travel In Pregnancy! When To Fly?

As pregnancy is a valuable journey for every woman, it’s a common question to answer “Doctor, can I fly safely? Will it be harmful for my baby?

Let’ see what RCOG says! Remember, these may vary according to airlines of different countries!

For singleton pregnancy that means one baby in your womb, you can fly before 37 completed weeks of gestation. For multiple pregnancy, before 32 completed weeks it is safe to fly. Remember these timing is advised for uncomplicated pregnancy!

Another issue is duration of your flight. If if your destination is within 4 hours of air journey, you don’t need to worry much! But take adequate fluid, move your legs frequently, keep your seat-belt loose. If flight duration is more than 4hours, you have to take some measures or medicines, which your doctor will prescribe.

Another query about scanning before flight! Radiation exposure during body-scanning is very low. Don’t worry, your baby will be okay! 🙂

But!!!

If your pregnancy is complicated with some issues like severe anaemia, ear infections, cardiac or respiratory disease, recent bleeding or surgery or fracture etc., your doctor will not recommend to fly!

So, before you fly, meet your doctor of-course! Take a document or prescription from your doctor. 😉

HAPPY AND SAFE FLYING!!
